Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities: As Survey Officer working in the branch office, her/his responsibility shall include but not limited to the following: Preparation of the surveys
After estimated the needs on the different areas with both Program Managers, the officer will be in charge to conduct prospections, pre surveys and surveys with clearly established internal procedures;
Establish the Action Plan regarding the priorities of TPA opening areas before summiting it to both TPA and W&L Programs Managers;
Contributes to developing research project proposals and helps in the data gathering and analysis, conference aide memoires and papers;
Designing a filing system for research samples and materials;
Adapt the questionnaire and all the tools to the different areas before starting the survey on the field. This can cover such themes as water, sanitation, hygiene/health, environment, fire prevention and fire-fighting, first aid etc.
Management of a team
Manage subordinate team of surveyors every day of doors to doors surveys: daily presence, monitoring and review of the different questionnaires throughout the survey days on the field.
Check that the questionnaires are well filled.
Manage subordinate staff/team of encoders that will encode data of the surveys.
Check the encoding is done properly.
Helping researchers in data checking and data cleaning.
Training
Develops comprehensive, appropriate & empowering training tools and plan for the surveyors and the encoders, according to the needs established;
Supports and provides input for the training program of the surveyors and encoders for the enhancement of their skills and effectiveness.
Logistic
After estimated the necessary materiel, the Survey Officer is in charge to do the purchase before the beginning of the survey;
Estimate the best transportation timewise and in terms of budget for the team during the days of survey.
Coordination & Representation
Coordinates with the local administrative authority regarding the different schedule
for the surveys, ask authorization and also collect information regarding their activities in order to get inputs, and advice if that may affect the TPA/W&L surveys and activities;
Coordinates with the different associations and leaders on the different areas regarding the different schedule for the surveys and ask for authorization;
Represent the organization to all stakeholders and people she/he will meet on the field;
Coordinate implementation of data collection plans with the head office;
Assists in developing knowledge products, organizing learning events, workshops and other knowledge exchange platforms;
Attending meetings and lending a hand in minutes and planning.
Analyzing data and Reporting
Report and updates Water and Life Manager about the ongoing surveys on the field.
Report concerns and issues and discuss actions to be taken;
Deliver to the Program Managers the analysis with the agreed deadline beforehand;
Participate at the Coordination meetings and reports about the survey which could affect W&L/TPA activities;
Collects data and other documents; and summarizes information for the research project.
Financial Responsibilities
Budget preparation;
Liquidation reports.
Other:
Employee shall additionally render such other and unrelated services and duties as may be assigned to her/him from time to time by employer Program Manager;
Strong presence on the field.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Development Studies, or other related field in social sciences;
At least one year experience in undertaking research work and producing quality research output;
Familiarity to both quantitative and qualitative research methods;
Experience/and or good familiarity with Focus Group Discussions, Key Informant Interviews and other research tools;
Social studies &/ or research background;
Computer skills (pack office and if possible sphinx).
Autonomous and responsible;
Fluent in English (speaking and writing);
Knowledge in management, coordination and supervisory experiences may be required.
