Child Protection Coordinator
Responsibilities: The Child Protection Coordinator will lead and/or support child protection coordination mechanisms by promoting and facilitating active participation from key actors, including, where relevant, government. S/he will work with the Protection Cluster(s) and/or other key actors to: identify opportunities to integrate child protection into other protection and other sector activities and to avoid duplication; prevent unintentional harm to children as a result of inappropriate humanitarian assistance. The Child Protection Coordinator will work with child protection actors to assess the needs, coordinate and oversee inter-agency needs assessment about child protection issues and to map out priority protection gaps and identify key resources and assets, including existing child protection systems (both formal and informal). S/he will facilitate the development of an agreed interagency child protection response strategy and the creation of processes to monitor achievement of agreed interagency goals. S/he will promote and support adherence to agreed, interagency Child Protection standards and undertake advocacy on behalf of the interagency group as required.
The Child Protection Coordinator will collaborate with the Protection Cluster lead and OCHA to ensure that key child protection concerns are reflected in all documents and humanitarian initiatives and work with the Gender-based Violence and MHPSS working groups to ensure that CP and GBV actors work together to meet the comprehensive GBV-related needs of children. S/he will establish results-oriented, two-way communication channels between regional level, sub-national level, and national level Child Protection coordinator groups (as relevant), to promote, upgrade and strengthen a more standardized child protection response across all affected areas and work with partners to develop a child protection inter-agency emergency preparedness plan. S/he will collaborate with Government Authorities and other key stakeholders to strengthen child protection systems.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Social Development, Human Rights Law, International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science or similar related field, or equivalent significant experience. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible service in protection/child protection in humanitarian, emergency settings.
Previous experience in emergency response coordination, and in Advocacy and in the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms (MRM). Good knowledge of and experience in using inter-agency standards and guidelines on Child protection, including international legal framework with a focus on IDPs issues. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications especially Excel, and appropriate data presentation approaches and tools. Good writing and reporting skills. Proactive approach to problem solving and responsibilities. Highly organized, efficient, and reliable in a multi-task environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently, and with flexibility in a cross-cultural, international setting. Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, discretion, and reliability in a high stress environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and Tagalog (verbal and written) and ability to communicate in the local dialect of Cotabato Province and Davao Del Sur is an asset.
